Career Change By Finding Hidden Jobs

You apply for jobs that are advertised after they match your experience, skills and interests, expecting to have a good chance of getting one of them, right?  Wrong for much of the time! Many jobs, up to as much as 70%, are not advertised.  Employers often prefer to save the costs of recruitment by filling vacant or soon to be vacant posts through referrals.  These are the hidden jobs that you will never find out about, let alone apply for.

Employers may go through the recruitment process because employment law and policies oblige them to do so.  Have you ever attended an interview and realized that the panel had no intention of employing you, seeming to have already made up their minds?  I have experienced such situations too.

So what can you do about it?  You can network intelligently and become one of those referrals yourself. You need to keep making new targeted contacts and ensure that they get to know, like and trust you.  Keep up with former co-workers and managers too. Make sure you are the first to learn about new openings and can position yourself to take up the opportunity of your dreams.
